This is Monica Thomas, the Search Marketing/SEO Manager for medresponsive.com.

This week’s podcast will cover “Ways to Devise a Digital Marketing Plan”.

The other day, I was thinking about initial questions people may have after deciding to promote their business on the Internet. To me the most important first step is to have a strong digital marketing plan.

A digital marketing plan defines what you are looking to accomplish within a given time frame in order to meet a set of business objectives. A digital marketing plan helps you clearly outline your vision and indicate your one, five and ten year goals.

Creating a plan is the first step in determining the digital channels and media needed for you to acquire, grow, and retain customers.

Here are some questions you need to consider as you put together your digital marketing plan:

  • What are your business and marketing goals?
  • What is your overall digital marketing budget?
  • What is your budget for digital marketing advertising such as Google Adwords, social media advertising on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter etc.?
  • Do you have a budget for SEO (search engine optimization)?
  • If you don’t have a website, what are your objectives with a new website?
  • If you have a website, are you going to have it re-designed?
  • Who is your target audience?
  • What online digital marketing channels does your audience use?
  • What monetary outcomes are you looking to achieve?
  • What products/services benefits are you going to promote?
  • What alternative solutions are your competitors offering your prospective customers?
  • How would digital marketing methods improve your customers experience?
  • What data is needed to understand your customer behavior and preferences?
  • How will your digital marketing success be measured?
  • What online digital marketing channels do you use currently?

One of the great benefits of digital marketing is that you can test different ideas and then adjust strategies based on your testing results.

There are many different components to a digital marketing plan. Researching and understanding how to devise the correct digital marketing plan can often be tricky and time-consuming.
